Sales requires work. But not just ANY work. The kind of work that leads to results and success. Too many people focus on the wrong activities all in the name of being "busy." Here are some reminder tips when prospecting and generating new leads:
Build an ideal customer profile
Understand who benefits most from your product or service. Focus your energy there. You want to spend your time on leads that are most likely going to convert. Your outreach and cold calling efforts will yield better results. To build one, analyze your best customers. Look at who reviews, and expands. Common traits to look for include: Industry, revenue and pain points.
Target high-intent leads
These are leads that are already in motion. They are already expressing interest in solving a problem that you address. Put your energy on prospects who already show signs of needing your help. In this way, you can spend more of your time closing, rather than convincing.
Follow up fast
Respond to new leads the same day. Waiting is a mistake. Strike while the iron is hot. Be persistent, not pushy. Tailor your follow-up to align with the prospect's business goals.
Focus on solutions, not features
Solve problems. Simplify the lives of others. Stay curious by asking open-ended questions. This is how you uncover deeper needs and understand their pain. Ask: "What's slowing your team down?" or "What's keeping you up at night?" When you sell solutions, you are offering progress!
In closing, Know your numbers. Understand your conversion rates. Keep learning. Sales trends evolve. Stay sharp with interesting podcasts, books and other tools.
